How To Save Money On Home Heating Bills
Stay warm without sacrificing comfort with a space heater from Buster Brown
We all know how expensive our daily lives can feel at times so it’s often a relief to come across a fairly easy way to save some money.
Did you know that there are pretty easy ways that every homeowner here in East Texas and nationwide can cut down on his or her home heating expenses?
No, this doesn’t necessarily require an upgrade to the newest and greatest home heating system. No, this doesn’t mean having to be so strict about using your heat that you are cold and uncomfortable for most of the winter.
There are actually some very simple ways to reduce what you’re spending on your home heating – some of which don’t require much work on your part at all. If you are curious as to what these are keep reading to see what Buster Brown Propane recommends.
Ways to reduce your home heating costs
If you are looking to cut down on your home heating expenses (and let’s face it, what homeowner isn’t looking to cut down on expenses?) here are some suggestions on how you can go about this:
- Be mindful of how often you open and close your doors: Not opening and closing your doors constantly will help your home feel draft-free.
- Seal your home’s ductwork: Ductwork that isn’t sealed is an easy way for heated air to leak into a home’s crawl space or attic (areas that don’t typically need to be well heated). To cut back on your fuel usage, you want to ensure that all the ductwork in your house is sealed with either silicone caulking or duct sealer.
- Take advantage of the sun: If the sun is shining, use this to your advantage by opening your blinds and curtains. This will help make your home feel extra toasty without the need to use any additional fuel. Just make sure you then close your blinds and curtains once the sun goes down.
- Clear your vents: Make sure that your furniture, curtains or any debris isn’t blocking or clogging your vents. This will help ensure that the warm air that comes from your home heating system can actually circulate throughout your home, which will help you feel warmer without having to adjust your thermostat.
- Don’t waste heat on rooms that are empty: If you have rooms in your home that aren’t frequently used, closing the vents and doors in those rooms can save a homeowner up to about 8% of the heat that comes from their heater. This 8% can then travel to the rooms of your home that are actually occupied.
- Wear lots of layers: As obvious as this may be, dressing in layers is a great way to stay warm and comfortable without having to pump or adjust your heat.
- Buy a space heater: Space heaters are a great supplemental heat source. These devices allow you to heat just one area of your home while still keeping your thermostat set to a lower temperature.
