How to Estimate Propane Usage for Delivery Planning
Tips for managing your fuel deliveries
There are countless homeowners here in East Texas who rely on propane as an energy source every single day. Whether the fuel is being used for powering heating systems, stoves, water heaters, or generators, one thing is for certain – you want to avoid any complications with your propane-powered appliances and equipment and avoid running out of fuel.
So how do you do this? Well, it partially comes down to managing your fuel deliveries efficiently. This includes, among other things, how to estimate your propane usage.
Factors that influence how much propane you use
There is no one size fits all answer to the question “how much propane will I use?” The exact answer is dependent on a few different factors:
- What size home you have (this is particularly important if you are using propane to power your home heating system)
- How many appliances you are powering with propane and the condition and age of these appliances
- The type of climate you live in and how long the local winters are if you are using propane for home heating
Based on the above, we can determine that propane usage differs from household to household. However, we can also safely estimate that:
- A 2,220 square foot house that uses propane for whole-house heating purposes will typically use between about 800 and 1,200 gallons of propane a year
- You will use about 50 gallons of propane annually if you are using propane solely for cooking purposes
- If, in addition to cooking, you are also using propane to power a clothes dryer you can estimate using between about 50 and 100 gallons of fuel annually
- Warming the water that is used in your home will use between approximately 300 and 400 gallons of propane a year
Additional tips for managing your propane deliveries
Following the below tips from Buster Brown Propane Service will help you stay prepared when it comes to your fuel deliveries:
- It is best practice to contact your provider for your next fuel order when your gauge is at the 20% point. This should give you enough time to schedule a delivery without having to worry about running out of propane entirely.
- When you know your fuel is on the way, make sure the path to your tank and the area near your tank is clear of any obstructions such as branches, leaves, and any outdoor furniture. If it has recently snowed, shovel a clear path to your tank so that the delivery professional can safely reach it.
- Opt into Buster Brown’s Keep Full automatic delivery service or our wireless propane tank monitoring option. Either of these options will let you off the hook from monitoring your fuel levels.
- Try to stock up on fuel during the off-peak season when demand and prices tend to be higher.
